El Paso Zoo

El Paso Zoo

The Rotary Club of West El Paso awarded a grant of $17,500 in 2005 to the El Paso Zoo to create their Computer Discovery Center.

We are also supporters of the Zoo’s initiative to “Help End the Palm Oil Crisis.” by adopting the following resolution:

Whereas conservation groups around the world have identified palm oil as one of major foods that are killing the planet,

Whereas palm oil production is killing orangutans, elephants and other endangered animals around the world as their tropical rainforest habitat is destroyed by expanding palm oil plantations, the largest cause of deforestation in Indonesia and other equatorial countries,

Whereas about 50 percent of the goods we use every day including food products, cosmetics and detergents, contain palm oil,

The Rotary Club of West El Paso encourages all of its members and the residents of El Paso to avoid products with palm oil until sustainable (non-destructive) and deforestation-free palm oil that is 100% traceable is available to the consumer.
